Job Description

Job Title: Cytology Supervisor Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Cytotechnology Duration: Full-time Shift: Monday-Friday ,09:00am-05:00pm Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Client License Certifications: ASCP Registry, ThinPrep Certification Must-Have: Supervisory experience Description: Receives body material, fluids, exudate, and scrapings, and assists physicians with procedures. Collects specimens from patients. Examines and records classification of slides. Presents slides with unusual cytomorphology for further examination. Maintains records of all work performed in Cytology section per regulatory agency requirements. Supervises Cytotechnologists and assigns workload. Develops schedules and prepares departmental records. Performs other duties as assigned. Understands and adheres to performance standards, policies, and behaviors. Maintains all records as per regulatory agencies' requirements. Performs monthly and annual reviews of all required standards. Writes, revises, and maintains standard operating procedures for policy and procedure manual. Assists in cytology aspiration procedures scheduled from various departments. Screens gynecological and non-gynecological cases daily and in a timely manner. Signs out cases with the Pathologist as per schedule. Assists with preparation, staining, and coverslipping of cytology specimens as needed. Labels all cytology stained slides and verifies information against requisitions. Cleans and maintains equipment and solutions in the cytology procedure tray. Keeps procedure supplies stocked as needed. Schedules coverage and supervises per diem staff. Prepares and submits quality control and quality assurance reports. Meets regularly with leadership. Maintains continuing medical education logs for all section members. Interviews candidates for employment. Maintains and writes competency reviews for Cytotechnologists. Assists with performance appraisals and disciplinary actions as needed. Orders supplies and maintains inventory. Participates in other departmental activities as directed. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements: Client license and prior supervisory experience required. Bachelor of Science with ASCP Registry and/or relevant certification required. Minimum 3 years experience screening specimens and performing fine needle aspirations. Familiar with Bethesda system for cytology reporting. ThinPrep Certification.
