TravelNurseSource is working with Cynet Health to find a qualified Med/Surg RN in Weirton, West Virginia, 26062! Pay Information $2,218 per week About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: RN License Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - 1 year of experience in a medical surgical unit - Willing to accept first-time travelers Description: This unit has a 50-mile radius rule for candidates. The unit has 48 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights. Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness. RNs are required to titrate drips, with exceptions for cardiac drips. Common titratable drips include heparin, bumex, and lasix. Two charge nurses work on the day shift and take a patient assignment. If only one charge nurse is scheduled at night, they do not take an assignment. There are nursing aides/patient care techs, with an average ratio of 1:10-12. Job duties for aides include vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, applying heart monitors, bathing, feeding, toileting, and turning and positioning patients. Respiratory therapy administers breathing treatments and manages respiratory equipment. RNs typically monitor respiratory equipment but are not required to perform checks. A monitor technician reads and monitors telemetry and alerts RNs to any issues. RNs are not expected to interpret telemetry strips. Shifts for RNs are 7 PM to 7 AM and CNAs from 6 PM to 6 AM. There is no self-scheduling or block scheduling. The schedule is managed by the department manager. RNs are expected to be flexible and assist in covering gaps in the schedule. Every other weekend is required. Holiday rotation applies to RNs. Floating may be required to assist in lower acuity patient care. Dress code includes navy blue scrubs for RNs and ceil blue for patient care techs. Unit-specific orientation includes one day with an educator and one day with a preceptor. The charting system in use is Cerner Corporation - Soarian. BSN is not required for this position.
