Job Summary The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is a technical leader responsible for ensuring all electrical, mechanical and fire/life safety equipment in a data center operates at peak efficiency. The CE serves as the focal point for facility operations, managing shift technicians, subcontractors and vendor relationships, and leading preventive and emergency maintenance. The position works with night teams to conduct training and drills and collaborates with IT managers and business leaders to optimize plant safety, reliability and capacity. Key Responsibilities Manage and lead the Data Center Engineering team. Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses and prepare reports on critical facility operations and maintenance. Oversee on‑site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, subcontractors and vendors. Operate and manage routine and emergency services for critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers and building monitoring systems. Plan data center capacity and produce reporting. Assist in the design and build‑out of new facilities. Coordinate projects with IT managers and other business leaders to manage capacity and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability and efficiency. Deliver quality service and ensure all customer demands are met. Manage asset and inventory. Serve as the first‑level escalation point for out‑of‑hours emergency calls related to data center facilities. Lead the on‑call shift rotation and provide training and development for EOTs, including night shift personnel. Basic Qualifications Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in electrical or mechanical engineering. 3 years of electrical or mechanical experience. 3 years of data center or mission‑critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military, public safety). Preferred Qualifications 4 years of Data Center Engineering experience. Associate's or Bachelor's degree. Experience leading a team. Base salary range: $83,100 to $185,000 per year, depending on geographic location, experience and skill set. Compensation may include equity, sign‑on bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package.
