Employer Description Opportunity to lead a key underground mining operation in one of the worlds unique gold mining regions. Job Description Position Overview The General Manager will oversee all aspects of the operations at a narrow-vein underground gold mine, using underhand stoping methods, in East Africa. This leadership role requires a strategic and results-oriented individual with extensive experience in underground mining, particularly in gold operations. Safety is the highest priority and planning scheduling should render production predictable. Cost and controls to be owned. The GM will ensure that safety, production, cost control, and operational efficiency align with the companys strategic objectives while adhering to local regulations and environmental standards. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Oversee daily operations, including drilling, blasting, ore extraction, and transportation. Develop and implement production plans to meet output targets. Optimize processes for maximum efficiency and profitability. Safety and Compliance Uncompromising view to a culture of safety across all mining activities. Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of employees, contractors and the general public Ensure compliance with local, national, and international mining regulations. Implement and maintain safety protocols and emergency response plans. Financial Management Prepare and manage the operational budget to control costs while maintaining high safety and production standards. Monitor financial performance and ensure achievement of revenue targets. Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team. Stakeholder Engagement Liaise with financiers, shareholders, local communities, government authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations. Provide regular reports to senior management on key metrics, including safety, production, financials, and compliance. The company funds a range of additional projects that materially improve the lives of our local communities, including: > construction and maintenance of roads, schools and clinics; > sponsorship of local community events and > 100 scholarships for children in the area. Strategic Planning Identify opportunities for process improvements and technological advancements. Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the mines development and sustainability. Qualifications Qualifications & Experience Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering (commercial qualification would be useful). Minimum of 10 years of experience in underground mining operations, with at least 5 years in senior management roles. Proven track record in managing large-scale underground gold mining projects. Strong knowledge of underground narrow veil gold mining, associated equipment, processes and technologies. Experience in budget management and achieving financial targets. Familiarity with East African mining regulations is highly desirable. Indepth knowledge of the MHSAofSA would be useful. Skills Skills & Attributes Excellent leadership and decision-making skills.
