Mechanical and Thermal Architect
Job Location

Job Description
An innovative NewSpace organisation at the forefront of in-orbit services is seeking an experienced Satellite Mechanical Architect to lead the mechanical design and integration strategy for its GEO satellite platform. This is a senior, technically hands-on role, ideal for an engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and driving spacecraft design from concept through to orbit. You’ll join a diverse international team developing inspection, docking and life-extension missions that are transforming how satellites are operated and maintained in space. This is an opportunity to take ownership of mechanical architecture across an ambitious programme of spacecraft launches. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of the satellite’s mechanical architecture, including structures, deployables, and thermal interfaces. Perform or oversee FEA modelling and analysis for structural, thermal, and thermoelastic behaviour to ensure compliance with mission and launch requirements. Collaborate closely with avionics, propulsion, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration. Manage mechanical integration and test activities from component level through to full spacecraft assembly. Oversee suppliers and partners involved in design, fabrication, analysis, and environmental testing. Support environmental qualification campaigns (vibration, TVAC, shock), including test planning and data review. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Mentor junior engineers and promote technical excellence across the team. Maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and interface control documents (ICDs). Stay up to date with developments in propulsion and spacecraft mechanical design to inform future projects. About You Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or a related discipline). At least 7 years’ experience in satellite mechanical and thermal design. Proven experience designing and integrating mechanical systems for large or complex satellite platforms. Skilled with CAD and FEA tools such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or NASTRAN. Strong understanding of launch vehicle environments, structural margins, and mass/cg management. Experience with thermal-mechanical interface design and related trade-offs. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and influence across multidisciplinary teams. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Desirable Experience Full lifecycle experience from conceptual design to launch and commissioning. Knowledge of ECSS, NASA, or MIL-STD qualification standards. Experience with deployable structures, propulsion system integration, or large antennas. Familiarity with rapid prototyping, small-batch manufacturing, and cleanroom integration. Direct interaction with launch providers and mission assurance teams. Understanding of radiation, outgassing, and thermal control challenges for GEO missions. What’s on Offer The chance to shape the mechanical architecture of cutting-edge GEO missions. A collaborative and forward-thinking environment driven by innovation and precision. Competitive salary and benefits package aligned with your experience. Based in Toulouse, with the opportunity to contribute to multiple satellite missions in development and launch phases.
