Employment Type: Full-time About the Role Cogency is seeking an experienced Lead Big Data Developer to join our onshore team in Toronto. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in big data technologies, backend development, and system integration, with leadership capabilities to drive projects and mentor junior developers. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and optimization of big data solutions using Apache Spark and the Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, YARN). Architect and implement scalable data pipelines and frameworks to handle large-scale datasets. Develop and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Spring Boot . Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in Scala and Java . Design, query, and optimize data models in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) . Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business analysts, data engineers, DevOps, cloud engineers) to deliver end-to-end solutions. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers, ensuring adherence to best practices. Participate in code reviews, system design discussions, and performance tuning. Stay updated with emerging technologies and recommend improvements for scalability, performance, and reliability. Required Qualifications 8 years of professional experience in application and big data development. Strong expertise in Apache Spark and the Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, YARN). Proficiency in Scala and Java programming. Experience in backend development with Spring Boot and building RESTful APIs . Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) . Strong problem-solving, debugging, and performance optimization skills. Nice-to-Have Skills Experience in migrating on-premise applications to cloud platforms (Azure/AWS). Familiarity with machine learning concepts and workflows . Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
