Job Description

McEwen Mining Inc. has four producing mines, located in Nevada, Ontario, Mexico, and Argentina, and also has exposure to copper through its subsidiary McEwen Copper, owner of the large Los Azules copper deposit in Argentina. Our goal is to further develop into a strong and profitable gold and silver producer, focused on the Americas. In order to do that, we need great talent. McEwen Mining currently has an opening at our Fox Complex Sites for a: UG Long Hole Blaster Reporting to the Underground Mine Supervisor, the Long Hole Blaster is responsible for completing safe and efficient long hole (production) blasting operations in an underground environment. These tasks are to be performed while following engineering issued plans, specific site safety procedures, the mines production targets, and pre-op checks. They must also be meticulous in their inspection of the workplace in order to remove and/or correct any hazards. He or she must be a committed team player with strong knowledge and dedication to safety, production methods and equipment care. Other duties will be assigned as per operational needs. The list of duties and responsibilities below is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative and flexible in line with the requirements of the position. Operational / Technical Execution Completion of all pre-operating checks Inspecting their work area and removing or correcting any hazards mitigating any risk of injury. Interpret and follow drill and blast designs, including loading prints and firing sequences. Select and handle explosives and detonators safely, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specs and regulatory standards. Adhere to all provincial and company safety protocols. Maintain knowledge of the Explosives Act of Canada for the safe handling, storage, transportation and use of explosives Prepare for long-hole blast following cleaning and loading designs. Operate loading equipment to charge blast holes with appropriate blasting agents. Conduct pre-blast inspections to verify hole depth, alignment, and cleanliness. Conduct hazard evaluation, safe distance determination, required emergency response planning, and safely load blast materials and connect detonation arrangements. Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and supervisors to adjust plans based on ground conditions. Determine optimum firing sequence. Load explosives, set fuses, and detonate explosives to create desired blasting patterns and rock fragmentation. Perform post-blast assessments, including muck pile evaluation and wall stability checks. Maintain accurate blast records and report any anomalies or misfires. Perform duties required to ensure safety and to support the advancement of mining plans, such as scaling loose rock, drilling and installing bolts, extending and/or installing air and water pipes. General Administration and Controls Maintain precise daily logs. Communicate efficiently with cross-shift personnel as well as technical services, surveyors, supervisors, and other underground personnel. Maintain a high level of housekeeping in work areas. Understand and apply safe work practices. Follow all company policies and standards. Other duties that may arise from time to time. Qualifications and Skills Requirement: Must be authorized to work in Canada. Valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation. Ability to work safely, efficiently, and always maintain a safety conscious mentality within the Mine’s environment. Good safety knowledge and understanding with the ability to recognize hazards and situations that may cause problems. Highly motivated to learn/train and become part of the McEwen Mine team supporting all the processes with professionalism. Must have a working knowledge in Long Hole Blasting. Ability to work in a safe and productive routine and safely guide the actions of less experienced employees. Blasting certification per provincial regulations (Ontario surface/underground blasting license). `Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Certified Blaster Must have underground common core. Willing to work shift work. The ability to operate air buggy to machine clean holes is considered an asset. The ability to perform shotcreting activities is considered an asset. The ability to perform any construction mining task is considered an asset. Must be physically fit and capable of performing physical labor such as lifting as well as working in a challenging environment underground. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
