Our challenge: Our client is seeking a skilled Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and integrated cloud data solutions supporting modernization initiatives. The role focuses on leveraging Azure and other data technologies to enable seamless data ingestion, governance, and analytics across diverse government systems and stakeholders. Responsibilities: Design and implement high-performance, secure data architecture on Microsoft Azure supporting hybrid environments. Lead the development of data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse Analytics. Architect and manage data lakes and structured storage solutions with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, ensuring governance and accessibility. Integrate data from multiple sources including ServiceNow, geospatial systems, and external APIs via connectors and custom scripts. Develop and maintain data models, semantic layers, and data products for analytics, reporting, and machine learning. Build and optimize data workflows using Python, SQL, and Spark technologies within Azure Databricks. Design and publish secure data services and APIs utilizing Azure API Management for downstream consumption. Implement data governance frameworks—including metadata management, classification, and lineage—to meet privacy and compliance standards (e.g., FOIP, GDPR). Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data architecture aligns with organizational goals and modernization strategies. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines for reliability, scalability, and performance. Provide mentorship and technical leadership to data engineers and analysts, promoting best practices in cloud data architecture. Skills: Extensive experience managing Databricks workspaces, clusters, permissions, and cost optimization strategies (minimum 3 years). Proven track record as a Data Architect in large enterprises, designing data strategies and models that support business and technical goals (minimum 8 years). Strong background creating data solutions with Power BI, Synapse, data marts, and semantic layers for self-service analytics and data science (minimum 4 years). Proficient in GitHub/Git for version control, collaboration, and integrated data workflows (minimum 4 years). Deep knowledge of Azure services (Storage, SQL, Synapse, networking) with experience in secure access via Service Principals and Managed Identities (minimum 5 years). Hands-on experience with Python (including PySpark) and SQL, managing enterprise ETL/ELT workflows in cloud environments (minimum 6 years). Building scalable data pipelines with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, and related tools; experience with Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric is a plus (minimum 3 years). Nice-to-have: Experience with AI applications in data engineering for automation and productivity enhancement (minimum 1 year). Data governance, security, and metadata management within Databricks environments (minimum 2 years). Building secure, scalable RESTful APIs for data exchange, with strong authentication mechanisms (minimum 3 years). Experience with message queuing technologies like ActiveMQ and Service Bus for distributed system communication (minimum 3 years). Working on cross-functional teams to develop data-driven applications and products (minimum 5 years). Integration experience with ServiceNow and Azure Data Management Platforms (minimum 1 year).
