This is an Onsite role, working in Hatfield, PA.  The hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30pm

The Metallurgical Analyst performs hands-on metallurgical testing while working in a fast-paced laboratory setting. The position’s primary responsibilities include executing metallurgical tests on a variety of metals, accurately documenting test results in a report format, interpreting and following part drawings, specifications, and instructions as assigned by senior personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Predominantly performs basic to intermediate, routine metallurgical examinations with supervision.
  • Examinations include, but are not limited to: Grain Size, Microstructural Characterization, Macrostructure, Surface Condition, Surface Contamination/Alpha Case, Decarburization/Carburization, Intergranular Attack/Oxidation, Ferrite by Point Count method, and Microhardness.
  • Occasionally performs metallurgical sample preparation including sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing.
  • Interprets specifications, procedures, and engineering drawings including ASTM, ASME, AMS, ISO, SAE and PWA standards.
  • Mixes fresh etchants and maintains etchant log.
  • Operates light optical microscopes, stereoscopes, and hardness testers.
  • Etches non-metallographic samples such as bends, Charpy, and tensiles.
  • Monitors frequently changing scheduled completion dates and times to ensure that established deadlines are met.  
  • Cleans the analytical lab environment. 
  • Conducts routine maintenance of analytical equipment including basic repairs when possible.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires a minimum combination of education and related experience performing metallurgical or materials testing.
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 4+ years of experience, OR
    • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university, and 2+ years of experience
  • Computer skills required: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Laboratory Management Systems and Software.
  • Other skills required: Mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, ability to work in a team environment, ability to multi-task and work intermittently in an up-tempo environment.
  • The employee will be required to lift, push, pull, carry and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Must meet citizenship eligibility required by accrediting bodies.

This position requires use of information or access to processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export laws including but not limited to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
