Job Description
The Management Unit Commercial Manager will lead the commercial function for a defined Management Unit (MU) within our defence contract. The role will cover the South East of England. The role is responsible for commercial strategy, financial governance, contract compliance, risk management, and value optimisation across the portfolio. This position is critical in ensuring sustainable profitability, client satisfaction, and operational excellence through strong commercial leadership. Responsibilities Financial Management : Developing and managing the budget, ensuring profitability, and monitoring key financial metrics (e.g., revenue, costs, margins). Manage prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts with all stakeholders at the end of the project Strategic Planning : Contributing to the overall business strategy of the unit, aligning it with the broader company goals. Client Relationship Management : Overseeing client relationships, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction, and exploring opportunities for upselling or cross-selling. Supply Chain Management : Ensuring the efficient flow of goods and services within the unit. Team Leadership : Managing a team of staff, setting performance targets, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Compliance and Risk Management : Ensuring that all commercial activities are in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Key Skills Required Knowledge of FM standards and regulations : Familiarity with industry standards, best practices, and regulations governing facilities management, including health and safety regulations Subcontractor management : Experience in managing relationships with third-party service providers, contractors, and suppliers is critical Financial and Budget Management Experience Budgeting & Cost Control : A key part of the role is managing costs and ensuring that the business unit stays within budget. This means experience with budget preparation, cost forecasting, and tracking expenses. Revenue Generation & Profitability : Knowledge of pricing strategies for services and the ability to develop pricing models for FM contracts. Experience in contract management , especially for service-level agreements (SLAs) and contract renewals . Financial Metrics : Familiarity with financial tools and systems to track key metrics such as P&L , cash flow , and cost-to-service ratios is necessary Project Management Experience : Experience managing multiple projects, including budgeting, scheduling, procurement , and resource allocation , is highly valuable. Client-facing Experience : Experience managing relationships with key clients is crucial. This includes understanding client needs, overseeing service delivery, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Contract Management : Experience managing long-term contracts with service providers or clients, including renewal negotiations, contract terms, and ensuring compliance. Risk Management : Understanding and managing risks associated with facilities management, such as health and safety hazards, legal compliance issues, and operational risks.
