Job Summary: The Reading Instructor performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject areas.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Position directly supervises students.
Schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00am-5:30pm
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction to a class of up to 18 students at various skill levels
- Deliver literacy instruction in the areas of foundational reading skills, integration of knowledge & ideas, vocabulary acquisition, and identifying key ideas & details
- Present literacy lessons and support students with use of online resources
- Integrate project-based learning activities into the academic classroom curriculum
- Effectively relate to the student population and recognize student success in the classroom
- Provide mentorship to create a positive atmosphere and promote student engagement
- Maintain academic classroom and testing integrity
- Complete classroom attendance throughout the day
- Document student performance, progress, and concerns
- Maintain adequate classroom cleanliness
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree. Certified to teach in the state of Iowa.
Preferred: One year in a teaching capacity with disadvantaged youth.
Knowledge: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification, ability to effectively relate to student population.
