Our Company is seeking a Product Development Manager that will lead efforts to identify, develop, and launch new aluminum-based products that align with market opportunities and company growth objectives. This position plays a critical role in expanding American Metals Supply’s product portfolio by researching applications where aluminum can replace or improve existing materials, collaborating with mills, and guiding the sales team with new product introduction from concept to commercialization.
Product Development Manager Responsibilities:
- Market Research & Product Identification
- Analyze market trends and customer needs to identify existing or emerging products that could be manufactured from aluminum.
- Evaluate potential markets and applications for aluminum conversion and innovation.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to assess market demand, pricing, and competitive positioning.
- Product Feasibility & Development
- Work closely with CAD drafters and engineers to design and model new aluminum products.
- Conduct feasibility analyses, including material selection, mill capabilities, production costs, and profitability projections.
- Oversee product take-offs, specifications, and performance requirements.
- Collaborate with mills and manufacturing partners to ensure product viability and production efficiency.
- Sales Product Launch & Sales Support
- Develop and maintain detailed product documentation, drawings, and technical literature.
- Support sales team with product knowledge, training, and selling strategies.
- Assist in creating marketing materials and technical bulletins to communicate product benefits and applications.
- Provide post-launch analysis and continuous improvement feedback on product performance and customer adoption.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Product Development Manager Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, or related field; MBA a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in product development, in metals, manufacturing, or industrial distribution required.
- Strong knowledge of aluminum products, alloys, and mill processes.
- Experience collaborating with Sales teams, CAD drafters, engineers, and manufacturing partners.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical opportunities into marketable products.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Effective communicator with both technical and commercial teams.
Product Development Manager Other Requirements:
- The ability to work in an automobile for extended periods traveling to numerous customer locations daily and on a seldom basis work in an office environment.
- Ability to work inside & outside in climate controlled and non-climate-controlled environments with varying temperatures, humidity levels. Walking surfaces may vary based upon customer location, i.e., uneven surfaces, concrete, sand, grass, mixed surfaces, etc.
- Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
- The ability use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk & hear.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment.
