Lodge-based Role: HEAD CHEF VACANCY Salary: R20,000 per month (negotiable, DOE) Accommodation: Complimentary accommodation provided Location: Private Big 5 Game Reserve, Eastern Cape (±45 minutes from Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth) Property Type: Exclusive 5-star safari lodge Position Overview An exclusive 5-star lodge in a Private Big 5 Reserve is seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead and inspire its culinary team. This is a hands-on, leadership role requiring proven skills in menu planning, stock control, staff management, and the ability to consistently deliver a world-class dining experience to discerning guests. This position may be open to couples where the partner has relevant luxury lodge experience in a Head Guide or Lodge Management role. Key Responsibilities Lead all kitchen operations across multiple service points to 5-star standards. Plan and design seasonal, creative menus aligned with luxury safari dining. Oversee food preparation, plating, and service excellence. Manage stock levels, supplier relationships, and cost controls. Conduct regular training, mentorship, and performance management of the kitchen team. Ensure compliance with hygiene, health, and safety standards at all times. Work closely with lodge management to align kitchen offerings with the guest experience. Maintain high standards of organisation, cleanliness, and kitchen discipline. ✅ Requirements & Qualifications Minimum 4–5 years’ proven experience as Head Chef in a luxury 5* lodge or boutique hotel environment. Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a small kitchen team. Solid administrative and organisational abilities, including stock management and budgeting. Excellent knowledge of food presentation, menu planning, and dietary requirements. A creative flair for producing dishes that combine elegance with safari-style authenticity. Flexible, resilient, and able to adapt to a remote lodge environment. Passionate about hospitality and delivering exceptional guest experiences.
