Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities Operational Management Oversee daily operations of all lodge departments: front office, housekeeping, food & beverage, kitchen, maintenance, guiding, and guest activities. Ensure smooth coordination between departments for seamless guest experiences. Manage budgets, financial controls, stock, and cost control measures. Ensure compliance with lodge policies, legal requirements, and health & safety standards. Guest Experience Uphold and deliver exceptional 5-star guest service and hospitality. Handle guest feedback, complaints, and special requests efficiently. Create unique, memorable experiences that reflect the lodge’s brand and setting. Engage with guests personally to build relationships and ensure satisfaction. Staff Leadership & HR Lead, train, mentor, and motivate a multicultural team. Manage staff rosters, performance appraisals, and disciplinary procedures. Drive service excellence through continuous training and development. Foster a positive team culture aligned with luxury hospitality standards. Administration & Reporting Prepare operational and financial reports for lodge owners/Head Office. Monitor revenue, expenses, occupancy, and guest satisfaction metrics. Implement efficient systems for reservations, stock control, and procurement. Maintain supplier relationships and negotiate best pricing. Property & Environment Management Oversee maintenance of lodge facilities, vehicles, and equipment. Ensure sustainability practices (energy, water, waste management). Work with the guiding/conservation team to integrate wildlife experiences with responsible eco-tourism practices. Qualifications and Experience Education: Diploma/Degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or related field. Additional training in Business Management or F&B advantageous. Experience: Minimum 5–7 years lodge/hotel management experience , with at least 3 years in a senior role at a 5-star game lodge . Strong track record in luxury guest service, operations, and staff leadership. Experience managing multicultural teams in a remote environment. Skills & Attributes: Strong financial and administrative management skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Guest-centric mindset with strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and in a remote, rural environment. Computer literate (MS Office, reservations systems such as Opera, Panstrat, or similar). Hands-on, proactive, and adaptable. Knowledge of Zulu culture and fluency in English (Zulu/Afrikaans advantageous). Other Requirements: Driver’s license and ability to operate lodge vehicles. Willingness to live on-site in Mkuze area. Passion for wildlife, conservation, and authentic safari experiences.
