Job Description
This couple position is responsible for the smooth, guest-focused operation of the lodge — with one partner overseeing camp management and hospitality operations , and the other serving as a qualified Field Guide , providing world-class safari experiences. The couple works as a team to ensure an exceptional guest experience aligned with 5-star lodge standards and sustainable eco-tourism principles. ️ Camp Manager – Duties and Responsibilities Oversee all day-to-day camp operations including housekeeping, front-of-house, and guest relations. Manage guest check-ins, hosting, and personalized experiences throughout their stay. Coordinate with departments (kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance, guides) to ensure seamless operations. Handle lodge administration: bookings, stock control, petty cash, staff rosters, and reports. Ensure that all health, safety, and hygiene standards are maintained. Manage housekeeping and laundry standards, ensuring rooms and public areas meet 5-star expectations. Conduct staff training, motivation, and performance evaluations. Manage guest feedback and resolve issues promptly and professionally. Maintain strong communication with Head Office and other lodge departments. Assist with marketing material, social media updates, and hosting VIP guests when required. Field Guide – Duties and Responsibilities Conduct guided game drives and bush walks in line with lodge protocols and FGASA standards. Provide guests with educational, safe, and memorable wildlife experiences. Conduct pre-drive briefings and post-drive debriefs with guests. Monitor and report wildlife sightings, unusual animal behaviour, and ecological data. Ensure vehicle and equipment maintenance (daily checks, cleaning, and reporting faults). Contribute to guest hosting, assisting the Camp Manager during mealtimes and special events. Enforce safety and ethical wildlife viewing practices. Participate in conservation initiatives and lodge sustainability programs. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of flora, fauna, and the local ecosystem. Qualifications and Experience Camp Manager Hospitality Management Diploma or equivalent qualification. Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a managerial or front-of-house role at a 4–5-star lodge. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Computer literacy (MS Office, Lodge management systems such as PANstrat, NightsBridge, or ResRequest). Proven financial acumen (budgeting, stock control, and reporting). Strong guest relations and hosting skills with a warm, professional demeanour. Knowledge of food & beverage service standards and housekeeping operations. Valid driver’s license and PDP an advantage. Field Guide Minimum FGASA Level 1 (or higher) qualification. DEAT/THETA Registered and in possession of a valid First Aid certificate . PDP (Professional Driver’s Permit) essential. ARH (Advanced Rifle Handling) certificate required. Valid SARS tax number and current guiding logbook. Minimum 2–3 years’ experience guiding at a Big 5 game lodge (preferably within KNP or Greater Kruger area). Excellent communication, interpretive, and guest engagement skills. Passion for conservation, wildlife, and hospitality. Non-smoker and of sober habits preferred. Couple Requirements Proven experience working together in a remote or bush environment. Professional, well-presented, and guest-focused with strong teamwork and adaptability. Willingness to assist each other across departments when necessary. Both partners must be self-disciplined, responsible, and comfortable living in a remote lodge environment.
