Job Description
Laser Machine Operator Reporting to: Operations Seniority Level: Mid Career (2 - 4 yrs exp) Region: Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng Type: Temp Job Summary: The Laser Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC laser cutting machines to cut and shape sheet metal components with precision. This role involves reading technical drawings, selecting appropriate materials and settings, performing quality checks, and maintaining equipment. The operator ensures that all parts are produced to specification, efficiently and safely, as part of the fabrication process. Key Responsibilities Runs and monitors the Trumpf laser during cutting operations. Loads/unloads materials. Adjusts settings and troubleshoots minor issues. Optimizes cutting paths and nesting. Checks finished parts for accuracy and finish quality. Uses measuring tools (callipers, micrometres, etc.) to inspect tolerances. Skills & Experience Needed Technical Knowledge Understanding of CNC machine operation. Familiarity with laser cutting principles: power, speed, gas types (oxygen, nitrogen). Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints. Machine Operation Skills Prior experience with TRUMPF machines (or similar brands like Bystronic, Amada) is a big plus. Skills in material handling and fixture setup. Knowledge of various materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, etc.). Attention to Detail Ability to monitor precision and quality of cuts. Understanding of tolerance levels and finishing requirements. Safety Awareness Knowledge of workplace safety protocols and laser safety procedures. Recommended Qualifications Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent. On-the-job training or certification from TRUMPF or an accredited training centre.
