Job Description

The School of English and Humanities at Spartanburg Methodist College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track appointment for Assistant Professor of Public Speaking and Communication beginning in Fall 2026. The 4/4 teaching load will primarily include introductory courses in public speaking (7-8 sections per year) with an occasional elective in the BA in Humanities degree program. A Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates who have completed their doctoral coursework and those with a master’s degree in Communication Studies may also be considered for the position. The successful candidate will have a clearly articulated teaching philosophy; experience with first-generation, non-traditional, and/or traditionally underserved student populations; and a record of teaching excellence. Spartanburg Methodist College has a long history of providing excellent undergraduate education for students who are traditionally underserved in higher education.
