Job Description

1. Data Management, Reporting & Filing Oversee and ensure the accurate capturing of all financial transactions into the approved accounting systems. Implement and monitor financial controls to ensure data integrity and compliance with IFRS, company policies, and statutory requirements. Supervise the maintenance of efficient filing and archiving systems, ensuring full compliance with POPI and PAIA Acts. Develop, refine, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for accounting and payroll processes. Ensure timely preparation and submission of internal management reports to assist Directors in financial decision-making. 2. Payroll Oversight Oversee, review, and approve the monthly payroll process, ensuring compliance with company standards, tax regulations, and labour legislation. Manage complex payroll reconciliations (medical aid, provident fund, union deductions, PAYE, UIF, SDL). Ensure compliance with SARS submissions, EMP201, EMP501, and statutory reporting deadlines. Provide strategic input on payroll structures, cost-to-company models, and optimisation of employee benefits. Liaise with HR on employment contracts, leave policies, and remuneration structures. Ensure accurate reporting to bargaining councils, Workmens Compensation, and other regulatory bodies. 3. Accounting & Financial Management Oversee all reconciliations (bank, creditors, debtors, petty cash, site floats) and ensure data integrity. Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, preparing accurate management accounts, financial statements, and variance analysis. Take responsibility for VAT201, EMP201, and all SARS-related submissions and payments. Manage preparation of budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections in collaboration with Directors. Conduct cost and profitability analysis, recommending strategies to improve margins and reduce expenditure. Lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely completion. Evaluate and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance. Oversee and authorise creditor payments, supplier negotiations, and credit applications. Provide Directors with financial performance dashboards, KPIs, and insights to support strategic decision-making. 4. Leadership, Compliance & Governance Lead and mentor junior accounting staff, bookkeepers, and administrators. Ensure compliance with South African tax, labour, and corporate governance laws. Serve as the point of contact for SARS, auditors, and regulatory bodies. Regularly review and update policies and processes to align with best practice. Support Directors in strategic initiatives, including expansion, funding applications, and investment opportunities. 5. Systems & Process Optimisation Ensure optimal use of SAGE 300 Accpac and SAGE 300 People Payroll, recommending upgrades and automation where needed. Train and support staff on financial systems for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. Implement digital reporting and analytics tools to improve visibility and streamline reporting. 6. Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, highlighting risks, opportunities, and trends. Present financial performance to senior management and advise on corrective measures. Provide financial insights for business cases, tenders, and project evaluations. Maintain relationships with financial institutions, insurers, and auditors. Minimum Requirements Education : BCom Accounting / BCompt (Honours preferred). CA(SA) or studying towards CA/SAIPA/SAICA accreditation advantageous. Experience : 58 years relevant accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior/supervisory role. Systems : Proficient in SAGE 300 Accpac & SAGE 300 People Payroll. Advanced Excel and reporting tools required. Knowledge : IFRS, South African tax legislation, labour law, compliance requirements. Skills : Leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving, ability to present financial info to non-financial stakeholders. Attributes : High attention to detail, integrity, strong communication, ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
