Artisan: Electrician

JOB PURPOSE Repair, maintenance and service for all electrical equipment, machinery and electrical installations. You should be well prepared to do your job with all safety precautions, as well as experience in different kinds of electrical devices and systems. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE Basic knowledge of Electrical systems, Knowledge of electrical hazards Basic knowledge of drilling machines/ angle grinders. Circuit tester Continuity testers; Loop testers, clamp meter, insulation tester and other related test equipment Knowledge of Medium Voltage switching Microsoft Office Suite (Advantage) Valid Drivers License. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Electrical Maintenance & Repairs Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and plant infrastructure. Diagnose and repair faults on motors, switchgear, PLCs, variable speed drives, and control panels. Replace or repair defective wiring, relays, fuses, circuit breakers, lighting systems, and other components. Ensure minimal downtime during breakdowns by responding promptly and effectively. Installations & Upgrades Install and commission new electrical equipment, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards. Modify existing circuits and systems as required to improve efficiency and reliability. Assist with plant upgrades, modifications, and project work where electrical expertise is required. Preventative & Predictive Maintenance Execute preventative maintenance schedules on all electrical systems. Conduct inspections and testing to identify potential risks before failures occur. Ensure all maintenance tasks are properly documented and reported. Safety & Compliance Adhere strictly to Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations and company safety policies. Perform lockout/tagout procedures when working on live systems. Ensure all work complies with SANS (South African National Standards) electrical regulations or equivalent standards. Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks. Technical Support & Collaboration Support production teams by providing technical assistance to maintain continuous operations. Liaise with external contractors, suppliers, and inspectors when needed. Train and guide apprentices or junior electricians where applicable Administration & Reporting Complete job cards, maintenance records, and fault reports accurately and timeously. Keep inventory of spare parts and recommend reorders where required. Provide input into maintenance reports and improvement initiatives. Other Duties Participate in standby and call-out duties as rostered. Work shifts, overtime, or weekends when required by operational needs. Perform any other reasonable task assigned by the supervisor or manager. General & Training Development Provide general administrative support to the bid team as required. Participate in relevant training and professional development to build knowledge in bids and tenders. Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role, as assigned. CLOSING DATE: 30 September 2025 QUALIFICATIONS Matric (Grade 12) N3 Electrical Engineering Certificate National Trade Test Certificate or Military Artisan Certificate provided by OEM or accredited agent of OEM 3 Phase Wiremans license EXPERIENCE 2-3 Years experience in electrical areas within the Maritime ships 2-3 Years experience in Fault Finding & Repairs. Proven capability of executing maintenance of equipment Maintenance and repairs of ships systems: Electrical, electronic & control systems (Advantage)
