Job Description
Head of R&D – Polymer Technology role overview and details (Singapore-based, with APAC scope). Overview Avensys is a reputed global IT professional services company headquartered in Singapore. We service a client base across banking and financial services, insurance, information technology, healthcare, retail, and supply chain. Job Purpose Lead the development, industrialisation, and commercialisation of advanced polymeric solutions. Oversee R&D, global project replication, supply chain creation, and client/stakeholder engagement to drive successful market deployment and scale-up. Key Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end development and commercialisation of polymeric SMX technology from proof-of-concept (POC) to industrial-scale roll-out. Design, formulate, and optimise polymeric markers/codes for performance, cost, and regulatory fit. Establish and maintain a library of polymeric applications aligned with strategic goals. Evaluate material characteristics and processing methods across industries to guide solution design. Develop rapid prototypes and POCs for client demonstrations and validation. Strategic Project Management Take full ownership of the Singapore Plastic Circularity Project with A*STAR, including commercialization and scaling initiatives. Build frameworks to replicate global projects across Japan, UAE, Europe, and priority markets. Develop and monitor integrated project plans (scope, cost, timeline, risk). Manage P&L responsibility for project and technology units. Supply Chain Development & Industrialisation Create and manage an international supply chain for raw materials, markers, and solution providers. Ensure compliance with industrial, environmental, regulatory, and safety standards. Stakeholder & Commercial Engagement Represent client meetings, stakeholder presentations, and technology demonstrations. Collaborate with funding bodies, research institutions (e.g., A*STAR), and partners for joint proposals. Establish networks and commercial models to enable technology scale-up. Laboratory & Team Leadership Oversee lab operations, including equipment procurement, logistics, and R&D processes. Guide and mentor cross-functional teams for high-performance delivery. Build and sustain a collaborative working environment. Skills and Qualifications Technical Expertise Strong background in polymeric materials, plastics engineering, and material science. Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes, plastic recycling, compounding, and material applications. Knowledge of chemistry, polymer technology, and industrial-scale production methods. Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams within multicultural/global environments. Experience in commercialising new technologies, scaling POCs to industrial deployment. P&L management experience with strategic and operational decision-making. Project & Supply Chain Industrial experience in manufacturing and supply chain development. Strong knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and compliance regulations. Interpersonal & Communication Strong ability to simplify scientific concepts and communicate with clients, stakeholders, and partners. Excellent technical writing skills (reports, proposals, manuals). Public speaking, presentation, and client engagement capability. Additional Requirements Highly organised, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a hands-on approach. Able to work under tight deadlines, respond to client needs quickly, and adapt in dynamic environments. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Fluent in English; knowledge of French, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean is a plus. Willingness to travel extensively (international).
