Job Description

Systems Engineer $85,000 - $105,000 | Colorado Springs, CO | U.S. Citizenship Required – Active TS/SCI Clearance Be part of the Joint Tactical Ground Station (JTAGS) mission—develop, integrate, and sustain the systems and networks that power development, test, training, and operations for space-based missile warning. A Day in the Life – What You’ll Do • Participate in cross-functional team meetings, including weekly program flow down, program management status, and daily technical scrums • Collaborate with IPT leads and interface with program leadership to ensure system specification requirements are satisfied • Lead development and maintenance of Systems Engineering SOPs and documentation for reliable, repeatable execution • Balance responsibilities across micro-level tasks and macro-level projects • Review program plans, procedures, reports, drawings, and other documentation for completeness and quality • Delegate assignments to team members while maintaining accountability and oversight • Evaluate and onboard new team members to support program needs • Develop, verify, and validate system, subsystem, and component-level requirements, tracking verification status and artifacts • Work with Integration and Test IPTs to ensure JTAGS systems are built and tested to requirements • Support design changes ranging from minor fixes to large-scale capability upgrades • Execute system and software performance analysis using Matlab-based tools to extract data and compute performance measures • Track problem/deficiency reports and lead root cause investigations and corrective actions • Apply MBSE using Cameo or similar tools to document architecture and system interfaces • Collaborate with Chief Engineer, Chief Architect, CM/DM Lead, and other IPTs to maintain complete and accurate system baseline documentation • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers • Identify and manage risks and opportunities impacting schedule, budget, or technical performance • Support proposal development, including basis of estimate and statement of work for systems engineering activities • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with U.S. Space Force customers • Identify and evaluate new processes, tools, and capabilities to improve execution of JTAGS systems engineering activities Required Qualifications • 5–8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance (required at start) • Proficiency with RHEL OS command line for navigation, file management, and permissions • Proficiency with Matlab, including script development, troubleshooting, and use of CVS for revision management • Proficiency with IBM DOORS for requirements management, including baselines and change tracking • Ability to derive and develop technical requirements from original source requirements and CONOPS • Knowledge of Cameo Systems Modeler (or similar MBSE tools) and DoDAF • Experience with technical writing (reports, briefings, plans, procedures, diagrams) • Intermediate to advanced understanding of the Systems Engineering “V” Preferred Qualifications • Experience with satellite communications ground systems and/or missile warning systems • Experience developing, integrating, or testing GUI-based software on RHEL OS • Experience scripting with Python or bash in Linux • Experience leading teams or managing individual contributors • Experience developing and managing project schedules • Experience with control account management (CAM) • Skillset in Microsoft Project for scheduling • Experience supporting U.S. Space Force development or sustainment programs as a defense contractor • Working knowledge of JIRA for task assignment and tracking • Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and principles Who is Caribou Thunder?
