Overview Lab Patient Technician – you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and in our business, and you will see the difference you make in patients’ lives. Position details Status: Temporary Part Time Regular Schedule: Varies Additional requirements: Shifts and schedules may vary based on operational needs. The successful candidate may be required to work weekends and assignments, locations, and hours may change. Flexibility is essential. You must be able to assist at various PSCs within the region and be available from 6:45 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday to Friday, and 6:45 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturdays. Number of positions: 1 Start Date: ASAP Contract End Date: May 2, 2027 This vacancy is for an existing position. Responsibilities Greet and obtain required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients follow the necessary test protocols prior to collection. Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings. Perform special test collections (e.g., medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and complete related documentation. Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests. Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other data related to processing test results. Prepare specimens for transportation and testing. Qualifications Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred. Phlebotomy experience is an asset. ECG training or experience is an asset. Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm. Strong customer/patient service skills and the ability to relate to patients and clients, even in stressful situations. Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality.
