Perfusionist, Clinical – Royal Columbian Hospital The Perfusionist, Clinical – Royal Columbian Hospital role available at Fraser Health Authority . Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $62.13 - $68.10 / hour. Overview The Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) in New Westminster, British Columbia is a level 1 trauma center with 450 acute care beds and 12 ORs. RCH is the primary acute care hospital within the Fraser Health region, serving a population of 1.75 million. RCH performs on average 970 open-heart cases per year, including CABG, valve replacement/repairs, and complex aortic procedures. There are 13 perfusionists at RCH supporting all cardiac procedures, including 170 IABP procedures, 435 cell savers and 20-30 ECLS cases per year. RCH is the only 24/7 ECLS retrieval program in BC with custom-built ECLS transport equipment for ground and air transport. RCH is a designated clinical training site for the BCIT perfusion technology program. Royal Columbian Hospital is located near the Sapperton SkyTrain station on the Expo Line, facilitating access by public transit. The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project (RCHRP) is a multi-year, multi-phase effort to increase capacity, beds and services. When redevelopment is complete, the region will have greater access to cardiac, trauma, maternity, NICU and related services. New Westminster is known for its waterfront views along the Fraser River and serves as a hub in the Greater Vancouver region. Responsibilities Assemble and operate extracorporeal equipment to support or temporarily replace patient circulatory and respiratory function (heart-lung machines, intra-aortic balloon devices, precision blood pumps). Manage myocardial perfusion and protection techniques including cardioplegia delivery systems, cooling pads and myocardial ischemia monitors. Utilize techniques such as hypothermia, haemodilution, haemoconcentration and autotransfusion as adjuncts to external circulation. Monitor and manage hemodynamic pressures, blood gases, anti-coagulation levels, ECG and coronary/systemic blood flow. Administer blood products, drugs, anaesthetic vapours, crystalloids and gases as directed by Cardiac Anesthetists and surgeons. Carry out physiological measurements, calculations and calibration/maintenance duties; maintain strict sterile technique. Maintain accurate records and statistics; participate in perfusion research and clinical teaching of perfusion students. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Graduation from a recognized program in Perfusion Science with two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiovascular Perfusionists (CSCP) and/or American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certified. Skills and Abilities Ability to operate related equipment and communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Ability to work well with others and organize work; physical capability to perform job duties.
