Overview Burnaby Hospital is seeking full-time and part-time Emergency Physicians to join our physician group. Locum/temporary work opportunities are also available. Responsibilities Provide emergency medical care in a high-volume, high-acuity Emergency Department. Manage pediatric emergency patients and collaborate with hospital services to ensure timely and effective patient care. Participate in teaching opportunities and support education initiatives as a teaching site. Shift scheduling is flexible but equitable, and trades are facilitated by scheduling software. Qualifications CCFP (EM) certification FRCPC (EM) certification CPSBC US certified class of registration (ABEM) Other international emergency medicine designation recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia PALS or APLS certification within five years ACLS and BLS within two years Comfortable managing pediatric emergency patients Previous experience in a high-volume, high-acuity Emergency Department is preferable About Burnaby Hospital Burnaby Hospital is a large urban community hospital serving the City of Burnaby and East Vancouver. The Emergency Department is a high-volume site, with 80,000 to 85,000 patients per year, and offers extensive services to support ED operations including ICU, Internal Medicine/Cardiology, a hospitalist program, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gastroenterology, Respirology, onsite Neurology for acute stroke management, Pediatrics consults, Psychiatry, Addictions Medicine, Palliative care and a full complement of medical imaging modalities. Multisystem trauma cases are transferred to the Royal Columbian Hospital nearby. The site also supports rapid access clinics for DVT/PE, chest pain, internal medicine, respirology, pediatrics and neurology. Burnaby Hospital is undergoing a $2.4B redevelopment to increase capacity. Phase 1 opens in November 2025 with a new 24-bed acute care ED space; Phase 2 expands the ED to over 100 care spaces and adds dedicated imaging. Phase 2 is expected to complete in 2030. Group and Work Environment Our group includes a mix of recent FRCP and CCFP(EM) graduates, internationally trained physicians, mid-career and seasoned emergency physicians. Shift scheduling is flexible, with easy shift trades. We support maternity/paternity leave, vacation allocation and senior-member policies. We offer opportunities for teaching and involvement in education, quality improvement, research, simulation and physician leadership training. Location and Lifestyle Burnaby Hospital is centrally located in the lower mainland, close to downtown Vancouver, North Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, with easy access to outdoor activities, cultural amenities and housing options. Compensation and Shift Structure Compensation is based on a Fee-For-Service model. Average income for a full-time Emergency Physician is $400,000 – $450,000 per year, with potential for higher earnings based on individual efficiency.
