Highway & Roads Market Sector Director Primary Responsibilities Market Sector Directors (MSD) drive our business within HDR’s matrix management structure. The Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is HDR’s largest, representing nearly $1B annually globally. It includes clients owning and operating highways, toll roads, local roads, and bridges. HDR’s primary services in this sector include: bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling services. This role requires understanding of H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and governmental structures. The primary responsibilities are divided into: Market leadership and business development (~70%) Staff development (20%) Support to Operations (10%) MSDs set the vision for HDR’s growth and service expansion, supporting regional and business group leadership to meet goals, develop staff, and implement strategies. They maintain communication with leadership to execute growth plans and operational strategies. The sector maintains relationships with state departments of transportation, towns, counties, and cities in the US, with expansion plans in Canada, the UK, the Middle East, and Australia. The role involves engaging with local clients, providing comprehensive services, and promoting HDR’s brand and growth outside the US. Responsibilities include: Overseeing business development, client management, and strategic growth initiatives Leading and developing staff within the sector Supporting project delivery and operational excellence Qualifications: Preferred: 20 years in highway or bridge planning/engineering, PE license, leadership in industry associations. Required: Bachelor's in engineering, at least 12 years industry experience with leadership, strong communication and business skills, and a commitment to HDR’s culture.
