Job Description

Overview PhD position in experimental hematology to study normal and malignant hematopoietic stem cell biology. The Porse group at the Finsen Laboratory/BRIC at University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on hematopoietic stem cell biology. The research group The Porse group (Finsen Laboratory/BRIC) focuses on mechanisms governing normal and malignant haematopoiesis with emphasis on hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) during adult haematopoiesis and malignant transformation. We use mouse models of pre-malignant and malignant conditions, mouse knockout lines of stem cell regulators, primary patient material, and genome-wide approaches including single cell analyses and single cell proteomics. The Porse group is affiliated with the Finsen Laboratory at Rigshospitalet and with BRIC at the University of Copenhagen. Project The successful candidate will join an international and interdisciplinary group working on normal and malignant hematopoietic stem cell biology, including diseases such as acute myeloid leukemia. The candidate will use advanced CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing in primary human and murine hematopoietic stem cells to assess novel regulators of HSC biology. There will be a large degree of freedom to shape and drive the research projects forward. Start: 15 January 2026 Duration: 3 years as a PhD student Job Description Your key tasks as a PhD student at SUND are: Carrying through an independent research project under supervision. Completing PhD courses or other equivalent education amounting to approximately 30 ECTS points. Participating in active research environments including a stay at another research team. Obtaining experience with teaching or other dissemination related to your PhD project. Teaching and disseminating your knowledge. Writing a PhD thesis based on your project. Key criteria for the assessment of applicants Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree related to the subject area of the project. The master’s degree must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years). Employment is conditioned upon successful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, in accordance with applicable rules.
