We invite applications for a fully funded PhD position in the field of data-assisted computational modelling of particulate multiscale and multiphysics flows in the frame of the newly founded Christian Doppler Laboratory for Data-Assisted Simulations of Complex Flows. The PhD project will be conducted at the Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria in close cooperation with Plansee SE, Reutte, Austria. The position comprises 6 - 8 weeks on-site visits per year at Reutte, Austria. For this industry-orientend position we are looking for a motivated and curious PhD candidate. Start Date: January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter Your tasks: * Research in the field of computational modeling of particulate multiscale and multiphysics flows * Development of surrogate models (e.g., recurrence CFD) for real-time simulations * Contribution to digital process twins for industrial furnaces * Addressing fundamental questions in data-assisted modeling to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions * Collaboration within the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Data-Assisted Simulations of Complex Flows Your profile: * Master's degree in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Science, or a related field * Solid background in classical simulation techniques (e.g., CFD, CFD-DEM) * Strong programming skills in at least one scientific computing language * Interest in or willingness to learn deep learning or other data-driven modeling methods * Beneficial: Experience with machine learning frameworks and physics-based simulations * Experimental skills for validation experiments * Willingness to conduct on-site visits and talk to responsible people from development and production * German language skills desirable What we offer: * A dynamic and supportive research environment in a leading computational modeling group * Close cooperation with the industrial partner Plansee SE * Access to high-performance computing resources and collaborative networks * International collaborations, conference participation, and career development opportunities * Employment at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz with a gross salary of EUR 3.715, (14 times per year) Application Instructions: Please send your application documents to andrea.scharinger@jku.at or apply directly here with: * A short but honest cover letter detailing your research interests and motivation * A 2-page CV including relevant publications (if any) Sonja Fuchs Recruiter 43 (5672) 6003094 AUT.Plansee SE
