Job Description

Job title: Data Developer Location: London, UK Job type: Contract (Inside IR35) About the Role In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines and integrations that support analytics and reporting for leading insurance clients across the UK, Europe, and Africa. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and business teams, to deliver high-quality data solutions. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring data accuracy, quality, and integrity, enabling informed decision-making across the organization. What will you do? Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources including modern Core Insurance Platforms and legacy systems. Collaborate with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions. Optimize data workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability. Ensure data quality and integrity through validation, monitoring, and automated testing. Maintain and enhance data models and schemas to support analytics and reporting needs. Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing across the team. Qualifications / Certifications required Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Experience and skills required Associate level: 2 to 4 years experience in data engineering or backend data development. Senior Associate level: 5 years of experience in data engineering or backend data development. All levels: Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Scala, or Java). Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Informatica, Azure Data Factory, or Apache Airflow. Hands-on experience working with Parquet files and managing data in Amazon S3 buckets. Practical experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure Databricks, AWS Glue, or GCP Dataflow. Familiarity with Snowflake or similar modern data warehousing solutions. Ability to design scalable data models to support analytics and reporting. Understanding of dimensional modeling, normalization, and schema design. Knowledge of data validation, cleansing, and monitoring techniques. Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, POPIA). Experience optimizing data workflows, queries, and storage for performance and cost-efficiency. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline issues in production environments. Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams including Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and business stakeholders. Experience working in Agile environments using tools like Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar. Ability to document data flows, architecture, and technical processes clearly and concisely. Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences. What is nice to have? Experience in the insurance or financial services industry. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for data. Exposure to data cataloging tools and metadata management. Experience of Guidewire Cloud platforms and CDA.
