Job Title: Radiologic Technologist, CT Technologist Profession: Diagnostic Imaging Specialty: Radiologic Technologist, CT Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 2 weekends per month Hours per Shift: Friday 1800 - Monday 0700 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Current Radiologic Technologist license Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification; ARRT (R) Must-Have: - Successful completion of an Accredited Radiologic Technology Program - CT experience required Description: The Radiologic Technologist (RT) performs a variety of radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. The individual performs general diagnostic, portable, bedside, and Computed Tomography (CT) exams. The Radiologic Technologist uses sound judgment and radiologic skills to obtain the highest quality images while keeping radiation doses to patients and personnel as low as reasonably achievable. This position requires being on call during the weekend shift and responding to calls for exams within departmental guidelines. Average exams for the weekend range between 10 and 12. Responsibilities include reading requisitions to determine areas of interest and referring to exam guidelines for necessary views. The RT uses practical knowledge of anatomy for proper positioning to obtain optimum image quality. Effective communication with patients to ascertain pertinent history related to requested exams is essential. The RT explains procedures to patients using language suited to their age and mental status to ensure maximum cooperation. Monitoring patient condition is critical, and any changes must be reported to nursing personnel immediately. The RT will update exam descriptions reflecting actual exams performed and review daily radiology charge reports to ensure accurate billing. After consulting with radiologists, the RT communicates with referring providers to ensure the most appropriate procedures for patients. Filling out online forms post-exam completion is required to expedite reporting of results. Using radiographic and computed tomography equipment is part of daily duties, including portable and C-Arm equipment. Correct use of personal barrier equipment is mandatory where required, and sterile technique must be used when necessary. The RT inspects contrast media bottles for expiration dates prior to use and draws up appropriate volumes according to protocols. Checks ensuring contrast warmer temperatures are within manufacturer guidelines are part of protocol. Positioning patients correctly concerning the x-ray beam, anatomy, and cassette is essential. The RT follows department protocol manual for views, cassette sizes, and positioning while providing additional views if requested. Technical factors are selected based on the patient's age, anatomy, and physiology and x-ray beam collimation is to be employed prudently. A radiation monitoring device must be worn at all times in areas where radiation is in use. The RT reviews images for quality, repeating views as necessary and using personal lead identification markers during studies. Ensuring images are properly presented for interpretation is critical. The RT operates assigned equipment while adhering to safety standards and reports equipment malfunctions immediately. Maintaining confidentiality regarding hospital and patient information according to regulations is mandatory. Additional duties may be assigned by the Radiology Supervisor. Professional communication is crucial in maintaining confidentiality and providing information to patients and families. Interacting with patients of various developmental and sociocultural backgrounds is expected. The RT collaborates with other care providers to complete imaging scans and provide necessary clinical assistance. Reporting on patient conditions and initiating problem-solving skills are part of the teamwork expectation. Reporting for work on time and as scheduled is required. Participation in staff meetings and ongoing education is necessary for professional development. Contributions to annual reviews of peer performance and clinical review are expected. The RT should respond to opportunities for improvement in care and customer service. Maintaining competencies required for the position is essential.
