Job Description

Overview EU Machinery Safety Engineer, High Risk Operations (HRO), AMSCI – We are expanding our Amazon Machinery Safety Compliance Inspection team with Safety Engineers to influence the safe design and operation of Amazon's technology across facilities. This role supports the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, and healthy behaviours and proactive health management. The successful candidates will help ensure high safety standards are built into systems and processes across new and legacy Fulfilment Centres, Sort Centres and Delivery Stations across Europe. Location: Mix of on-site and office work with frequent travel up to approximately 60%–70% of the time. The role requires technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards, PUWER/UWED applications and regulations to meet European country requirements. Emphasis is on sound safety engineering principles, basic machinery knowledge, and the ability to engage with cross-functional teams to translate knowledge into sound, compliant EU-wide processes. Key job responsibilities Support Amazon facilities by performing suitable and sufficient risk assessments of all relevant machinery and equipment, for legacy and new launch sites. Support the development of solutions that meet Amazon high standards for safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, efficiency, scalability, simplicity, and operational excellence. Engage and manage the involvement of the inspection team with projects, facilitating attendance for inspections as requirements change. Complete the lifecycle of inspection by reviewing corrective measures and implementing controls in the inspection tool. Provide functional links with other critical teams including Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, and New Build Safety and Real Estate teams. Manage the intake of requests for support and prioritise the process to fit operational requirements; support the delivery of central Health and Safety proactive objectives. Provide input to change projects, build-outs, and development projects and act as a technical machinery advisor for the EU WHS team. Keep tracking data up-to-date for the inspection program; plan and arrange travel efficiently for site visits. Basic Qualifications A Bachelor degree or equivalent level of qualification in line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). Experience in a similar role of machinery inspection. Robotics and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) knowledge. In-depth understanding of the EU Machine Directive 2006/42/EC and its relevant harmonized standards. Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments. Demonstrable record of managing machinery safety inspections across large multi-site businesses. Credibility and ability to engage and influence other functional leaders and their teams to build buy-in to EU Health and Safety strategies and change processes. Experience operating at all organizational levels from the warehouse floor to senior management. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer-based tools to support system engineering and briefing/proposal development activities. Preferred Qualifications Experience of working for a Notified or Approved body for Machinery Safety. Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent, preferably gained in a low-margin, high-volume environment with warehousing and logistics beneficial. Formal training certification in Machinery Safety (such as CMSE). Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment. TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer. Experience interacting with cross-functional teams and managing projects with minimal supervision. Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
