Job Description Job Description As a Part-Time Virtual Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our functional medicine and primary care practice by performing administrative and clinical tasks remotely. This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional passionate about functional medicine, eager to gain experience in a growing field, and comfortable working independently in a virtual environment. You will work approximately 20 hours per week, with availability required Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. This is a 1099 independent contractor position with no benefits. Key Responsibilities: Patient Coordination: Schedule and confirm virtual patient appointments, follow-ups, and consultations using telehealth platforms. Communicate with patients via secure messaging, email, or phone to provide appointment reminders, answer basic inquiries, and relay provider instructions. Collect and organize patient intake forms, health histories, and lab results prior to appointments. Clinical Support: Assist providers during virtual consultations by documenting patient interactions, updating electronic health records (EHR), and ensuring accurate charting. Relay functional medicine protocols, such as dietary recommendations or supplement schedules, to patients as directed by providers. Coordinate lab orders, track results, and communicate findings to patients under provider supervision. Administrative Tasks: Manage provider schedules to optimize appointment flow and ensure timely virtual consultations. Process billing and insurance inquiries, including verifying coverage and submitting claims, as needed. Maintain organized digital files and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulations for patient data security. Complete prior authorizations. Functional Medicine Support: Research and compile resources on functional medicine topics, such as nutrition, lifestyle interventions, or integrative therapies, to support patient education. Assist in preparing patient education materials, such as handouts or guides, tailored to functional medicine protocols. Qualifications: Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a health-related field preferred. Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is a plus but not required. Prior experience in a medical office, telehealth, or functional medicine setting is highly desirable. Recent graduates with a strong interest in functional medicine are encouraged to apply. Skills & Abilities: Proficiency with telehealth platforms, EHR systems (e.g., DrChrono, Epic), and general office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced virtual environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for professional patient and provider interactions. Knowledge of or eagerness to learn about functional medicine principles, including nutrition, lifestyle, and holistic health approaches. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations. Technical Requirements: Reliable high-speed internet connection and a secure, private workspace conducive to virtual patient interactions. Access to a computer with webcam, microphone, and necessary software for telehealth and administrative tasks. Schedule & Compensation: Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, with availability required Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Specific hours are flexible within this window, based on practice needs and candidate availability. Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.
