Job Description
Overview The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to UN Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes worldwide. These positions are located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy, within the Return-Refurbish-Reuse (3R) Program Management team, Supply Chain Service. The incumbent reports to the Chief, 3R Program Management. Responsibilities Refurbish equipment and vehicles returned from peacekeeping operations in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and standards. Service and repair vehicles and heavy equipment, including heavy-duty trucks, semi-tractors, material handling equipment, excavators, skidders, hydraulics, bulldozers, graders, cranes, and backhoes. Ensure all safety procedures are followed when repairing and fitting components and parts. Conduct pre-delivery vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repair activities on UN-owned vehicles and equipment to specifications and standards. Produce reports documenting servicing and repairs. Identify, diagnose, and rectify mechanical and electrical systems on heavy equipment, including air brake and pneumatic systems, transmissions, and computer controls. Identify required spare parts for refurbishment and maintain tools and equipment. Conduct rigorous testing to verify that repaired assets meet performance standards and operate correctly. Perform any other tasks as required. TECHNOLOGICAL AWARENESS: Keeps abreast of available technology and applies it to appropriate tasks; willingness to learn new technology. Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Job-Specific Qualification Valid driving license type B required. Valid driving license type C required. A valid forklift permit (3 tons) required. A technical or vocational certificate in heavy-duty vehicle mechanics or related fields is desirable. Work Experience At least three (03) years of experience maintaining and repairing various types of heavy-duty motor vehicles and related equipment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience may be reduced to one year for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in applying guidelines and procedures for the safe operation of workshop equipment (vehicle lifts, engine hoists, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment) is required.
