Job Description

POSITION MISSION: The Accounting Supervisor will oversee the treasury functions and daily transactional accounting activities of the company. Position is responsible for supervision, maintaining internal controls, as well as accounting compliance. 

 

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Accounting operations, which include cash receipts, accounts payable, payroll, cash management, investments, and fixed assets.
  • Oversees and maintains the system of internal controls over applicable accounting processes to minimize risk. Recommends and implements process improvements as needed to ensure that internal controls are operating effectively.
  • Recruits and hires Accounting operations staff and conducts performance evaluations. 
  • Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff.
  • Responsible for training, performance management, and accountability of staff.


Duties/Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees daily transactional accounting activities.
  • Oversees and manages daily/monthly balancing and reconciling activities to ensure timely and accurate completion; reviews account reconciliations and contributes to resolving discrepancies.
  • Performs monthly reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Monitors and manages cash balances. Makes recommendations on investment of excess funds.
  • Participates in the preparation of periodic internal financial statements
  • Participates in preparation of the corporate tax returns by outside tax preparer.
  • Oversees timely preparations and submission of 1099s.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures. 
  • Complies with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to accounting processes and procedures.


Other Duties:

  • Assists with quarterly and annual statutory and GAAP financial statements and insurance regulatory filings.
  • Assists external auditors and provides required statements and information for the annual audit and periodic statutory financial examinations.
  • Assists with preparation of the annual budget and assists other departments to prepare annual budgets. Analyzes and monitors actual vs. budget results; reports key variances and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.

Five years or more of related experience required.

Certified Public Accountant designation desired.
