Job Description Job Description Position Title: Technology Training Specialist Grade: 17 Department : Technology Training Date : September 2, 2025 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Hours: 40 hours per week / Full-Time Job Summary: This full-time position will design and deliver technology training programs for both staff and the public. This includes creating instructional materials and resources that support digital literacy and library technology use. The role involves conducting community assessments to identify current needs and trends, ensuring training remains relevant and effective. Additionally, the associate provides direct support to patrons while using the library’s public access computers, assisting with basic software, internet, printing, and hardware-related questions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Training & Instruction: Delivers technology training programs to staff and patrons Assists in planning and scheduling classes. Develops and distributes instructional materials including print, virtual content, and videos. Coordinates registration and curricula for assigned sessions. Conducts individual technology appointments in person, by phone, or virtually. Collaborates with the Technology Training Manager to assess community needs and evaluate training effectiveness. Supports special projects and initiatives that advance public training objectives. Public Computer Room Support: Provides regular coverage in the Public Computer Room. Assisting patrons with computer, internet, and system use; performs opening/closing duties. Basic housekeeping, and supply replenishment. Enforces network use policies with empathy and professionalism. Technical Assistance: Responds to software and hardware issues; troubleshoots within established boundaries. Documents and resolves problems using Help Desk software. Provides basic tech support to staff and escalates issues when needed. Assists patrons with adaptive technologies. Library Engagement & Professional Development: Maintains awareness of library resources and programming to assist with general inquiries; participates in meetings, trainings, workshops, and conferences. Sets annual goals aligned with library values; maintains records and documentation Engages with staff, patrons, and the public Stays current in the field through professional development and networking. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed. Qualifications & Required Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, intranet, and internet usage. Skilled in operating library technology systems, including computers, software, and related equipment. Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment when handling sensitive information and records. Establishes and manages effective record-keeping systems and office procedures. Capable of resolving moderately complex issues independently. Communicates clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Interacts professionally and respectfully with patrons, staff, and individuals of all ages. Works independently under general supervision while contributing to team goals. Delivers consistently high-quality customer service. Able to learn new software. Promotes open communication and collaboration across departments to support library objectives. Participates in library teams and cross-functional initiatives as needed. Education and Experience : Bachelor’s Degree Completion of multiple computer classes or extensive personal experience with required applications and hardware. Minimum two years’ classroom experience teaching adults preferred . Prior work experience in a library environment is preferred . Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting and standing at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 30 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the Library.
