Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with this patient population Description: The unit consists of 18 beds. The nurse to patient ratios are 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours. This unit supports patients who require intermediate care and those who are downgraded from critical care. Common diagnoses include patients with cardiac and vascular related conditions, such as CHF, A fib RVR, cardiac arrest, and others. RNs are required to titrate drips, which include medications such as Amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, and cardizem. There is a charge nurse on each shift, although it is rare for them to take an assignment. Patient care techs are present on the unit with a ratio of 1:18. Hospitalists and intensivists are in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available in the ICU at all times. RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips using hardwired monitoring systems. Scheduling is managed by the unit manager with no block scheduling or self-scheduling available. Every other weekend is required for shifts. Floating to all same and lower levels of acuity is expected. The dress code requires the wearing of navy blue scrubs. The unit requires RNs to have the necessary skills and experience to successfully perform duties related to the patient population served. Approval for requested time off is limited to seven days at the start of the contract, with no additional requests accepted thereafter. Shifts may be subject to cancellation as per facility policies.
