Job Description

For more than 20 years, the work of the PTI has had a transformative effect on countless young lives by enriching UK teachers’ love of subject and providing them with the tools and techniques to offer a highly diverse, stimulating and progressive educational experience to their pupils. Through the charity’s wholehearted commitment to supporting teachers’ professional development, over 2.6 million pupils to date have benefitted from the breadth of both the subject specific and school leadership courses on offer to their teachers, and the UK’s educational landscape is richer and fuller for the charity’s extraordinary philanthropy and the generosity of its donors. Amongst the PTI’s beneficiaries are a wide range of primary and secondary school heads and teachers nationwide, and the scope to increase the charity’s positive influence in further UK regions and markets is boundless. Following the highly successful tenure of Hugh Rayment-Pickard as Co-Director, the PTI is now seeking a Chief Executive Officer, who will work alongside Carolyn Roberts (Chief Education Officer and lead on academic strategy and delivery) and report into the Chairman and the Board of Trustees. Building upon the organisation’s excellent existing reputation, the new Chief Executive Officer will propel the charity into its next phase of growth and development. The successful candidate will be a strategically and operationally-minded leader with the charisma and drive to amplify the benefits and strengthen the influence of the PTI, maintaining strong networks and relationships with educational and other stakeholders along the way. In their ambassadorial capacity, the Chief Executive Officer will have overall responsibility for fundraising, business development and relationship management, and will be required to both maintain existing partnerships and broker new alliances with donors and schools of all shapes and sizes. Furthermore, they will have the confidence and presence to build and maintain relationships with other stakeholders, both externally across government and business and internally with board members and the charity’s Patron, HM King Charles III. Crucially, they will also have the operational competence and financial literacy to oversee the day-to-day running of the charity in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer. A track record of leadership experience within a not-for-profit, social enterprise, philanthropic or consulting outfit is desirable, and a passion for and recognition of the benefits and challenges of state-funded education is essential. Above all, the Chief Executive Officer will be an inspirational leader, able to articulate the charity’s exciting future vision to all stakeholders, leverage its existing position and, in partnership with schools, teachers and pupils nationwide, drive the PTI forwards into its bright future.
