Job Description
BSL 1:1 Teaching Assistant We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate BSL 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join one of our wonderful SEN schools. As a BSL 1:1 Teaching Assistant you will be working closely with one child to provide social, emotional, and physical support. Location: St Albans Hours: 8:30am till 15:30pm - Monday to Friday Salary: £90 - £110 Per Day - Depending on Experience Requirements you need for this role / Compliance you will have to have: CV BSL Level 3 Qualification Passport/RTW BRP/Share code (If applicable) 2X Proof of Address Proof of National Insurance DBS 2x Reference details Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one support for a Deaf child with ASD, ensuring their full participation in lessons and school activities. Use British Sign Language (BSL Level 3 or above) to effectively communicate and support the childs learning and development. Assist in implementing individualised learning plans and personalised strategies to meet both communication and SEN needs. Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where the child feels valued and understood. Collaborate with teachers and SEN staff to create and maintain an organised and accessible classroom setting. Support the child with daily tasks and routines, promoting independence where possible. Monitor and support the childs behaviour, using positive strategies to encourage engagement and wellbeing. Communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and other professionals to share progress and ensure consistent support. What would make you the right person for the role? Have proven experience working with children and young people with SEN, particularly autism and communication needs. Hold British Sign Language (BSL) Level 3 or above and can use it confidently in an educational setting. Are confident, resilient, and adaptable in a variety of situations, with the ability to remain calm under pressure. Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, with the ability to adapt to the childs individual needs. Can build positive, trusting relationships quickly with students, staff, and families. Have strong behaviour management skills and can follow personalised SEN and communication strategies effectively. Are proactive, reliable, and able to work independently while also being a strong team player.
