Senior Governance Lawyer

Service Care Legal are working with a local authority in East London is seeking an experienced Governance Lawyer to advise on complex constitutional and governance issues at the heart of local decision-making. ROLE: Senior Governance Lawyer LOCATION: East London RATE: £45-55ph LTD (£48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday pay, £43.24ph PAYE exc. Holiday pay) CONTRACT: 3 months with possibility of extension, 36 hours per week Key Responsibilities: Advise council officers, Cabinet Members, committees, and elected members on governance and constitutional matters. Support the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer with statutory responsibilities. Provide legal insight on FOI, subject access requests, and regulatory complaints. Ensure decision-making meets the highest standards of transparency and good governance. About You: Qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive. Strong knowledge of local government law and governance frameworks. Experience supporting Monitoring Officers with statutory duties. Excellent problem-solving, risk management, and communication skills.
