Head of Health & Safety & Compliance – Retail (National, Multi-Site) Location: National travel required – candidates must be based in the southern half of the UK Salary: Up to £90,000 bonus, company car & comprehensive benefits package Zachary Daniels are proud to be partnering with a leading, high-growth retail business in the search for a hands-on, strategic, and commercially minded Head of Health & Safety & Compliance. This is a pivotal senior leadership role with national responsibility across a large-scale, multi-site retail estate. Reporting directly to the COO, the Head of Health & Safety & Compliance will lead the development and delivery of a group-wide compliance strategy — with Health & Safety as the top operational priority. You’ll play a key role in driving a proactive, embedded compliance culture across stores, distribution centres, and central functions. Key Responsibilities: Define and deliver a national compliance strategy, with Health & Safety as the core operational focus Oversee compliance across a complex multi-site retail network, ensuring full alignment with HSE legislation and internal standards Lead audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to drive improvements in safety, governance, and performance Act as a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team, providing insights, challenge, and strategic direction Engage with store teams, regional leaders, and central stakeholders to embed compliance into day-to-day behaviours Build and develop a high-performing national compliance team, balancing central oversight with local delivery Serve as the main contact for external regulatory bodies, ensuring the business is always inspection-ready Collaborate cross-functionally with departments including HR, Legal, and Operations to ensure a joined-up compliance approach About You – What We’re Looking For: To be successful as Head of Health & Safety & Compliance, you will bring: Extensive experience in a senior Health & Safety and Compliance leadership role within a retail environment Experience operating at a divisional level as a minimum, with national-level responsibility highly desirable A practical and strategic background in Health & Safety — NEBOSH-qualified (or equivalent) is essential A proven ability to lead compliance strategies that deliver real operational impact Exceptional communication and influencing skills — capable of engaging teams from the shop floor to the boardroom Strong leadership experience, including the ability to inspire and grow a compliance team A passion for continuous improvement, with a proactive approach to driving a culture of compliance and safety Flexibility to travel nationally, with a home base in the southern half of the UK Why Join as Head of Health & Safety & Compliance?
