Job Description
Minimum requirements for the role: Must have a Diploma or B. Sc. Degree in Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Entomology or closely aligned field will be advantageous AVCASA and BASOS accreditation will be advantageous Minimum 5 years experience in farm management with experience in various crops in a similar position Experience in supervising employees Must have a good understanding of crops, pests, and diseases in the Western Cape High level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in crop protection and agronomy Understanding of GAP is essential General technical capabilities for maintenance of equipment Well-developed computer literacy and skills (Microsoft Office) and the ability to learn new programs Must have a valid drivers license and be willing to travel and be adaptable to changing working hours according to business requirements The successful candidate will be responsible for: Maintaining the general presentability of the farm (overall neatness). Handling all aspects of farm management without supervision. Managing and maintaining all kinds of permanent and annual crops, including planting, spraying, nutrition, pruning, and harvesting. Understanding and interpreting calibrations necessary in farming practices. Managing farm employees who assist in maintaining infrastructure, equipment, and permanent and annual crops, as well as field trial sites. Assisting the management team in maintaining infrastructure to deliver quality trials that support the companys RD&I, Marketing, and Sales information. Ensuring proper and timely service and maintenance of equipment, buildings, irrigation systems, and other facilities. Overseeing the efficient day-to-day operation of field and greenhouse activities. Gathering information on new farm technologies, crop varieties, and other developments in local agricultural practices. Improving efficiency and profitability of farming operations. Supporting the Area Manager in developing a well-disciplined research facility. Assisting the General Manager in performing duties to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Controlling and managing security. Performing other miscellaneous job duties as required or assigned.
