The unit has 14 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4. Behavior health technicians assist on the unit, with security monitoring via video. Shifts are 12 hours in duration, with a requirement to work every third weekend. Holiday shifts are rotated among permanent staff. The charting system used is Cerner. Common diagnoses include medical conditions with secondary psychiatric diagnoses. Patients may exhibit confusion, dementia, or low cognitive ability. Chemical restraints may be utilized, with rare instances of physical restraints. All patients are monitored via security video. The length of stay for patients is typically four days. The facility has a 24/7 respiratory therapy team and pharmacy services. Floating may be required to other departments as necessary. Floor-specific orientation involves two shifts.
