Job Description

Cloud Solutions Architect Position Overview: This role serves as the cloud engineering and architecture lead for the Mapping, Charting, and Geodesy (MC&G) Program Executive Office (PEO). The incumbent will manage cloud strategy, architecture, deployment, and optimization across MC&G programs, ensuring alignment with enterprise cloud policies and NGA technology strategies. This position enables mission success by driving cost-effective, scalable, and secure cloud solutions across classified and unclassified environments. Key Responsibilities: • Serve as a subject matter expert to MC&G PEO leadership and program teams on cloud architecture, engineering, and operations • Manage and oversee MC&G Mission Domain cloud environments, supporting development, deployment, and operations across programs, pilots, and initiatives • Plan and manage transitions and migrations to, from, and between cloud environments in coordination with NGA and external stakeholders • Ensure MC&G cloud solutions align with NGA’s enterprise technology strategies, standards, and governance practices • Evaluate current cloud services and architectures to recommend improvements in performance, cost-efficiency, and operational effectiveness • Produce and manage cloud-related specifications, guidance, and architectural artifacts • Provide technical guidance to Program Managers and contractors on configuring and implementing services such as VPCs, EC2, RDS, and other IaaS/PaaS offerings • Evaluate and recommend cloud services and architectures best suited for specific mission deployments • Establish and manage budgets, cost tracking, and spend plans for cloud-based programs in coordination with the Business Office and Program Managers • Develop and maintain cloud metrics, guidance, evaluation criteria, and documentation for the MC&G Mission Domain • Coordinate with NGA Cloud PMO, DevCorps, and other cloud providers to meet unique MC&G cloud requirements • Support DevOps/DevSecOps pipeline optimization, ATO processes, and vulnerability remediation across cloud-hosted systems • Act as liaison between MC&G cloud efforts and enterprise stakeholders, ensuring continuity during cloud transitions and minimizing mission impact during outages • Provide regular briefings, reporting inputs, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders on cloud usage, efficiency, and improvements • Lead onboarding of new vendors and cloud transition plans; monitor implementation progress and provide direction to contractors • Maintain cloud environment inventory, status tracking, and configuration oversight across the MC&G portfolio • Create and prioritize transition plans and schedules to support strategic cloud modernization initiatives • Provide cloud-based support to outage investigations and mission recovery efforts • Prepare and submit Weekly Activity Report (WAR) inputs and other reporting requirements Required Qualifications: • Minimum 2 years of experience supporting the National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG), with understanding of inter-organizational communication and technical processes • 2 years of hands-on experience defining and managing cloud requirements, and coordinating with cloud providers to meet those requirements; deploying and managing systems in Amazon Web Services (AWS); implementing and managing cloud development pipelines, automated deployments, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) • Experience with additional IC-approved cloud environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle, IBM) • Familiarity with DevSecOps tools and platforms (e.g., CHEF, Jenkins, SONARQube, Puppet, Kubernetes, Docker) • Active TS/SCI clearance or SCI eligibility required About inQ Services: inQ Services, based in McLean, Virginia, is a technology consulting firm with over 30 years of experience supporting commercial clients and federal mission-critical programs for the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.
