We are seeking skilled and motivated Mechanical Fitters to join our growing team, working in the rail sector . You’ll play a key role in assembling, installing, and maintaining critical systems on rail vehicles, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance. Job Purpose: To carry out the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and components on rail vehicles or manufacturing equipment, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards. Key Responsibilities: Assemble and fit mechanical components such as bogies, couplers, brake systems, and suspension units on rail vehicles. Install and align shafts, bearings, gearboxes, and other mechanical assemblies. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals. Perform routine maintenance and inspections on mechanical systems. Diagnose faults and carry out repairs or replacements as needed. Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments. Work closely with engineers, electricians, and other fitters to meet production targets. Maintain accurate records of work completed and parts used. Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations. Skills and Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Fitting. Proven experience in a mechanical fitting role, ideally within rail, automotive, or heavy manufacturing. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desirable: Experience working to rail industry standards (e.g., EN 15085, RIS-2700-RST). Forklift or crane operation certification.
