Senior Bridge Engineer

Job Location

Bonnyrigg, United Kingdom

Job Description

Senior Bridge Engineer Scotland Up to £55k Bonus Hybrid/Flexible Working Bridges don’t maintain themselves. Behind every structurally sound crossing is a team of skilled engineers making sure the nation keeps moving—and this is your chance to lead one of those teams. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer to take ownership of a diverse programme of bridge maintenance and improvement works across some of the most scenic—and sometimes most challenging—routes in Scotland. This is more than just calculations and CAD. It’s about leadership, delivery, and managing the full life cycle of schemes from investigation through to construction. If you’re motivated, technically strong, and ready to manage a small team and big impact—you’ll fit right in. What you’ll be doing: Lead a small but capable team of Engineers and Technicians, plus oversee external sub-contractors. Take charge of bridge maintenance schemes—from early-stage investigation and design to procurement and construction oversight. Sign off designs, manage technical approvals, and keep projects compliant with standards (or handle those lovely Departures from Standard where needed). Own tendering, documentation, financial reporting, and scheme performance. Be the go-to person for everything Health, Safety, Environmental and CDM-related across your schemes. Act as the key liaison for clients, stakeholders, and auditors. Make sure drawings, reports, and records are up to scratch and safely stored. Factor in environmental screenings and deliver appropriate mitigations before boots hit the ground. What you’ll need: Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering. Proven experience in the design and maintenance of highway bridge structures. Professionally qualified (IEng or CEng) and ideally MICE, MIStructE, IHE, or similar. Full UK driving licence. Strong project management chops and confident leading teams. Excellent communication and documentation skills. What’s in it for you: Competitive salary tailored to your experience. Up to 34 days annual leave (plus option to buy more). Hybrid/flexible working setup. Pension and life assurance. Access to employee benefits like retail discounts, charity days, and Cycle to Work scheme. Career progression plan with support for development and upskilling. Supportive, safety-first culture with a national-level impact. This is a role with serious responsibility—but also serious reward. You’ll be contributing directly to the maintenance of key infrastructure across Scotland, leading from the front and making your mark. Ready to build something that lasts? Apply now and let’s talk.
