Mechanical Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Location: Derby Job Type: Contract Salary: £24-26 per hour Working Hours: 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday About the Role: We are seeking a reliable and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team, working on a full-time basis. This role focuses on ensuring the continued operation and compliance of mechanical systems within a commercial or industrial environment. You will be responsible for routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs across a range of systems and equipment. Key Responsibilities: Ensure that routine maintenance is carried out to all plant and equipment to meet and exceed expectations and agreed service level agreements. Maintain domestic water systems in line with L8 (Legionella) standards, including regular water flushing and temperature checks. Identify and swiftly remedy plant faults and defects to ensure continuous operation. Carry out the following routine daily and weekly maintenance checks and tasks: Interceptor checks Sprinkler pump house inspections Fire extinguisher checks Fire exit door checks Shutter checks CET system checks Compressed air system checks Legionella maintenance (including water flushing and temperature monitoring) Plant room and pump house inspections Carry out general handyman works and assist with wider site maintenance as required. Ensure accurate completion of maintenance records, checklists, and compliance documentation. Follow site health and safety procedures and promote a safe working environment. Requirements: NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing, or equivalent qualification. Previous experience in a similar mechanical maintenance role, ideally within a commercial or industrial setting. Strong understanding of domestic water systems and Legionella compliance (L8). Ability to identify faults and carry out efficient, safe repairs. Comfortable with a variety of maintenance tasks including inspections, testing, and basic handyman duties. CSCS card or equivalent (preferred). Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
