Job Description
SDUK's brands include the Nations favourite cheese brand Cathedral City plus other well-known butter & spreads (Clover, Country Life, Vitalite, Utterly Butterly), functional ingredients and dairy free products. This key role within the business will make a real difference, ensuring the quality of our products being produced at our Davidstow site ranging from whey products to Cathedral City and Davidstow cheddar. In this role, you will be delivering analytical chemistry and microbiological testing services to support technical services projects and departmental aims. We will offer opportunity for you to cross-train if you have strength in one area in particular. As part of the Davidstow laboratory team, you will be a hands-on dedicated resource with supervisory responsibilities across a shift team of four analysts, where you will drive a significant amount of investigatory and analytical work as required to deliver projects in the required timeframe and to deliver specialist product release testing. You will be responsible for the documentation and reporting of investigatory results and the upkeep of all methodologies, with accountability for the completion of SDUK due diligence testing, ensuring approved SOPs are validated, trained and followed. This is a shift-based role, working 3-on/3-off 7am-7pm YOULL MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT MATTER BY Overseeing daily testing operations if both microbiological and chemistry labs, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow, and supporting testing activities at our water processing facility Ensuring all laboratory testing is conducted in strict accordance with approved SOPs, and ensuring SOPs are maintained with new techniques introduced and trained across the team Ensuring the maintenance of high standards of accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in all testing procedures Escalating out-of-spec or out-of-trend results to plant management Collaborating with plant and lab management to support any root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives Championing continuous improvement within the lab, supporting the development and enhancement of processes and practices, alongside researching, validating and implementing new methods Conducting risk assessments for departmental activities, ensuring safe working practices and compliance with H&S standards Carrying out supervisory tasks such as return-to-work interviews, personal development planning etc. Attending and contributing to tier-one meetings in the main production environment, discussing technical discussions with cross-functional teams YOURE BEST SUITED FOR THE ROLE IF YOU ARE Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a scientific subject, preferably Microbiology or Chemistry Experienced in a working professional laboratory with analysis and routine testing responsibilities Experienced at a team leader or supervisor capacity, with a leadership style that sets a positive example and reflects Saputos core values of quality and integrity Demonstratable hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation such as ICP and/or GC-MS Knowledgeable of laboratory accreditation and proficiency schemes A proven problem-solver with the ability to apply statistical techniques Able to demonstrate an ability to follow routine testing processes and support with validation of different processes Able to work without direct supervision and a good communicator Able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant H&S protocols and practices (PPE, COSHH, chemical spills) WE SUPPORT AND CARE FOR OUR EMPLOYEES BY PROVIDING YOU WITH Bonus scheme paid quarterly Autonomous and inclusive working environment Opportunities for progression within the UK and overseas Enhanced employer pension contributions with Scottish Widows Health cash plan - claim money back towards essential healthcare such as dental, eye care etc. Access to Thrive 24-hours a day - a leading and NHS clinically approved app which focuses on general wellbeing Long service recognised every 5 years Life assurance up to 4 x contractual pay Discounted branded products Free, onsite parking Individual allocated lockers Subsidised staff restaurant My Staff Shop - access to exclusive benefits, free advice and savings -providing great discounts from thousands of the UKs largest retailers & service providers.
