Job Description

Key Responsibilities • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and all relevant legislation through continuous monitoring of processes. • Assist employees when injuries occur, completing all medical and COID reports as required. • Liaise with service providers and HR regarding IOD claims and ensure timely online submissions. • Maintain and update the Health & Safety Management System to ensure compliance. • Promote safe working conditions, support incident investigations, and manage risk mitigation initiatives. • Implement systems to reduce exposure to hazardous substances, flammables, electrical, noise, and manual handling risks. • Oversee emergency evacuations in collaboration with SHE Tech Services Manager, H&S Representatives, Fire Marshals, and First Aiders. • Manage PPE provision – assess requirements, liaise with suppliers, order, and issue to staff. • Monitor and audit HSE permits and contractor compliance. • Develop and manage a site waste management plan for both solid and liquid streams. • Chair H&S, First Aid, and Fire Marshall meetings; distribute minutes and ensure follow-up actions are implemented. • Source and present toolbox talks, safety tips, and awareness material for staff education. • Conduct H&S induction training for new staff. • Manage the HIRA process, including baseline assessments, categorisation of risks, and maintaining action plans. • Provide monthly reports and statistics on HIRA and incidents. • Conduct audits, compile results, and work with management to implement remedial plans. • Coordinate H&S training needs with HR. • Ensure monthly inspections of first aid kits, fire equipment, and registers are updated. • Manage servicing of fire equipment in collaboration with external service providers. • Provide feedback to the Occupational Health Service Provider on workplace injuries and occupational diseases. Requirements • Strong report writing skills. • Computer literate. • Excellent verbal and written communication. • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills. • Ability to take initiative and suggest improvements. • Able to work under pressure and independently. • Team player with a self-motivated approach. Experience and Qualifications • Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent. • Recognised Health & Safety qualification. • Minimum of 5 years’ related SHE experience. • Preference will be given to candidates with FMCG or Pharmaceutical industry experience and GMP knowledge.
