Area Manager

Atlanta, GA / Angier, NC

About the Role:

The Area Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and driving the operational success of multiple locations within a designated geographic region. This position is responsible for ensuring that each site meets or exceeds performance targets related to sales, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. The Area Manager will lead, mentor, and develop store managers and their teams to foster a high-performance culture aligned with the company’s values and strategic objectives. By analyzing market trends and competitor activities, the Area Manager will identify opportunities for growth and implement effective action plans. Ultimately, this role ensures consistent execution of company standards and policies across all locations to maximize profitability and brand reputation.

Job Summary:
 The Area Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the operations of Class A CDL drivers across a geographically dispersed area. This includes strategic planning, daily operations management, driver support, and ensuring high levels of safety, customer service, and operational efficiency. The role involves fieldwork (25%–50% of the time) to support new customer rollouts, route coverage, and equipment drops. A key focus is fostering employee engagement and promoting a safety-first culture.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations for a team of 5–15 Class A CDL drivers, Leads, and utility workers to ensure quality, safety, performance, and profitability.
  • Provide hands-on field support, including route coverage and assistance with new customer implementations.
  • Coach, train, and evaluate employees; assist in hiring, performance management, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop and implement training programs to maintain consistent performance and promote driver retention.
  • Coordinate scheduling and routing for new customer rollouts, equipment delivery, and ride-alongs with the training team.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between customers, drivers, and internal teams.
  • Manage routing efficiency by reviewing daily/weekly schedules and recommending route optimizations.
  • Investigate service failures, geofence breaches, and other performance issues; create corrective action plans.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Enforce company policies and issue coaching or disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Act as a driver advocate to support issue resolution and improve communication across departments.
  • Ensure drivers follow planned routes and utilize routing technology properly.
  • Review logs to ensure Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and uphold safety standards.
  • Monitor driver activities using TMW (Transportation Management Software) and ensure adherence to processes.
  • Control and manage driver-related expenses.
  • Maintain accurate asset inventory records.
  • Perform other duties as required to support company growth and operations.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class A CDL and current medical certificate
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience (transportation or logistics preferred)
  • Farm or agricultural experience a plus
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding verbal/written instructions in English

  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and adaptable
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proficiency with routing software and transportation management systems (e.g., TMW)

Work Environment:

  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather, humidity, odors, or airborne particles
  • May involve travel based on operational needs

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and use of hands/fingers
  • Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting
  • Requires visual acuity, including close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, as well as depth perception and focus adjustment
