Sector Specialist: Financial Services & Inclusion

A leading institutional investment manager, entrusted with managing over R3 trillion in assets, is looking to appoint a Sector Specialist to join its Research & Innovation Division . This role is a unique opportunity for a seasoned financial services expert to sit at the intersection of sector research and impactful investing — guiding both listed and unlisted investment strategies across banking, insurance, asset management, fintech, and financial inclusion. Who we're looking for: You're a strategic thinker with deep sector knowledge of South Africa's (and Africa’s) financial ecosystem. You’ve covered financial services independently, with 5–8 years’ experience in investment research, strategy, or asset management. You know how to turn insight into investable ideas — and you're driven by purpose, long-term value creation, and meaningful economic impact. What you'll do: Deliver proprietary, forward-looking sector research to guide investment teams Generate actionable insights across financial services and financial inclusion Assess evolving macroeconomic trends and translate them into sector strategy Support both listed and unlisted deal teams with market intelligence and risk/opportunity analysis Contribute to valuations, due diligence, investment committee discussions, and origination efforts Stay plugged into global and local sector developments, presenting your views to executive leadership Requirements: Postgraduate degree in Finance, Commerce, or Economics (CFA/MBA is an advantage) Strong experience in sector research or financial analysis (including private markets exposure) Advanced modelling skills and solid understanding of valuation principles Exposure to investment decision-making environments RE5 certificate or willingness to obtain it within 6 months Ideal profile: Independent and intellectually curious Adept at synthesising complex information Confident communicator and presenter Resilient, collaborative, and performance-focused This role sits at the heart of economic transformation, enabling capital deployment into sectors that shape the future of South Africa’s economy.
