The position is permanent, remote, and based in Italy. What you will be doing We are seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to work within Italy and our European growth markets. You will lead energy storage sales for cross-functional teams, ensuring predictable profitable sales and project execution. You will report to the Area Sales Director. Responsibilities include: Lead energy storage sales opportunities from bid to contract execution Vet customers and opportunities for resource efficiency Manage key account relationships Develop pricing strategies and estimate costs accurately Lead stakeholders and sales teams to meet business goals Use S&OP data for cost and schedule assessments Ensure detailed understanding of tenders and project requirements Evaluate and mitigate risks Conduct internal reviews and secure approvals Follow Wärtsilä contracting policies and secure proper contract terms Lead contract negotiations and develop winning strategies Report project sales progress in CRM (Salesforce) Ensure smooth transfer of sales to the project team Qualifications and experience Minimum 5 years in utility-scale renewable energy, preferably with battery energy storage experience Commitment to safety Proven leadership in high-performing sales teams Solution-oriented mindset Experience negotiating complex sales projects Contractual and risk management skills Strong influencing and communication skills Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration Broad understanding of energy storage solutions and market outlook Commercial acumen and customer focus Excellent team player and coach Results-driven with planning and execution skills Inspirational leadership Appreciation for diversity and fostering psychological safety Willingness to travel (~20%) Performance metrics Successful project sales with profitability Team engagement, stakeholder collaboration, customer satisfaction Some travel required to meet customers worldwide; most meetings are virtual.
